Hummingbird in my garden

IMG_0215, originally uploaded by cabanagirl.

I am out in the Zen garden today pulling the young spring weeds that the rains brought. It is 80deg at this very moment and this little fellow is supervising my work. He is perched on a wisteria branch with many future buds. Thank goodness my nifty new camera was close by.

Hummingbirds are so gorgeous aren't they?

I was talking to my neighbor last night when I heard this weird loud noise in the dark. I asked Carol if she knew what it was, her reply was....It is an OWL! They come to prey on the squirrels which we have plenty of.

Luigi was sniffing in the grass I grabbed him and put him in the house and the noise stopped. My guess is they prey on more than squirrels.

I think she said it was a Horned Owl.

So many fascinating birds in this world. I would love to see a horned owl. My guess is that no owl could pick up Luigi. Just let them try. He will have nothing to do with it I am sure.

It actually may have been a Barred Owl. Evidently they can be quite vicious. I heard peripherally on TV that some kind of Owl had attacked and killed a dog. I guess they don't necessarily bother trying to pick them up.
