Poppy entered our world last night.  Usually goats give birth to two but not this time.  Each of these baby kids that enters my world is unique and adorable.  Truly miracles of life.

The art of the barbiche and pampilles

"Barbiche" is the French word meaning a growth of hair under the lower lip...in other words a "goatee".  Who best to have a goatee than a goat herself?  Sunny and CoCo got their beards at about 8 months.  Well the babies are now 9 months old and it was time to take a look at their chins.

Look carefully LuLu's barbiche is starting to grow.  She is a beautiful doeling, isn't she?  She and Maverick both have "wattles" or extra skin baubles where the jaw ends and the neck begins.  En Francais= "pampilles"

Now here's a MOAB (mother of all barbiche)

Sunflower wins the prize for a fabulous Barbiche.  And Yes she likes to have it brushed along with the rest of her.

Well no goatee yet for this young man but he still likes to find my lap every afternoon to snuggle into for a nap.  I like it too...especially when the sun is shining in the barn on a really cold day like today.  Snuggling with a goat is the best.

Hope

Goodness!  Isn't Winter over yet?
Well the first bloom of crocus has made its way.  For someone who absolutely hates Winter it's a sign of hope
Well and then there are adorable kids.

Welcome CoCo's new babies!

Well we try to plan these things but nature knows best.  After watching CoCo closely for two weeks without babies I decided to give her a rest - we adults just didn't figure out the right daddy or the right due date.  But Wednesday when I arrived home from work there were two new kids JUST born.  After just a day and a half they are out exploring the barnyard

Twinsies

Coco and Sunflower went "home" to Caramel Apple Farm for a stay while I'm off on vacation.  CoCo and her Mom, Blueberry usually come right together to say hello but this time there was a new baby there to greet my girls.  "Clementine" is Blueberry's new kid this year so CoCo has a new sister.  And don't they look alike?  Their color is officially "red" and not very common.  Clementine has blue eyes and Coco's are golden brown but other than that they are pretty much twinsies!!  CoCo's babies are due in 4 weeks.  Stand by for more goat baby pictures.  None for Sunny this year.  She gets the year off.

Meet Hank

Hank, originally uploaded by cabanagirl.
This is Hank. He is the daddy to my girls', Coco and Sunflower, babies due in May. There is a reason that male goats are not allowed in Denver or that they are just plain undesirable: they stink! Well Hank smelled pretty good to my girls for a short time but I think they quickly lost interest. Coco and Sunny have been gone for a few weeks but they are now home again!

Who could say "no" to this face?
