Rocky Mountain Local

Untitled, originally uploaded by cabanagirl.

Wow I hope he doesn't find a way in! This weekend is the Rocky Mountain Dental Convention. In California the convention is in Anaheim...still conveniently close but not as close as this. I hopped on the bus ($1.10 with my Medicare card) to avoid all the one way streets and the $12 parking and arrived just 30 minutes later. But who should greet me but this giant bear...one of the many art sculptures around Denver downtown. I have seen him in pics but not so up close and personal. Three weeks ago my Denver girls and I went to the art museum where there is one full 3 story wall of chef knives and across the street from the art museum is the downtown library. I have yet to go inside but I hear it is magnificent. I wonder which bus takes me there?

Sunflower in the sun

Sunflower, originally uploaded by cabanagirl.
Oh it has been cold in Denver since Christmas morning. It was beautiful to have a white Christmas and perhaps it was the first one for me but it has been frigid cold night and day. But the weather turned this weekend for a few days. Now that my garden is barren I have let my barnyard animals out to forage. The goats have discovered the closest lounging area to me is the patio furniture. Sunflower--9 months today-has found a place to rest her head.

Denver Art Museum-Becoming Van Gogh

Denver Art Museum, originally uploaded by cabanagirl.
Yesterday we rang out the old year by visiting the Van Gogh exhibit at the Denver Art Museum. Ella, Kate and I bundled up and headed downtown. I think this is the last of the Denver museums we have visited. I think we have now done them all.
Kate and Ella sit in a downward facing sofa against a wall of chef knives.
"Becoming Van Gogh" is a fabulous chronological journey through his genius. All of the paintings are a collection of privately owned pieces. It is amazing this artist had such a short span of paintings..only about 10 years. Of course we are all familiar with his wonderful Provencal colors of blues, greens and yellows.
I think I'll go get my paints out.
Happy New Year
