Icicle in the making

Icicle, originally uploaded by cabanagirl.
It is 16 deg out today. Earlier it was 6 deg. and it will be that cold again later today but right now the sun is shining. So the snow rests on the branch of the apple tree; the sun melts it slowly but it's too cold to drip; the freezing temperature then freezes it solid. I went out searching for icicles this morning. This is the most interesting one I have ever seen.  Then I went in the house to get my "good" camera only to find this beauty fallen to the ground on my return.
This icicle inspired me to look for others around the neighborhood.  So on my walk but mostly in my own yard I went in search of icicles.  Here is my find:

Chicken in the snow

Denver had another big dumping of snow on Saturday, about 12 inches. Spiderman ( a hen) wanted so bad to get to the barn to lay her turquoise blue egg but she had a struggle. Come on little chicken. You can do it.

Chickens and eggs

2 buff Brahma chicks, originally uploaded by cabanagirl.
Ten months ago I added 6 baby chicks to my flock. A few months ago I lost Buttercup leaving me with nine chickens. They are all laying beautiful nutritious and delicious eggs...all in different shades of blue and brown. The eggs all together look like dyed Easter eggs. This has been a fun ride

Happy Spring!

garden, originally uploaded by cabanagirl.

Today is the first day of Spring. What comes to mind when I think of Spring is pastel colors, garden beds in full bloom, warmer sunny days and lots of time for gardening. Well this is what Spring looks like in Denver......just plain ugly. It has been ugly like this since the third week in October. I thought winter was a 3 month season. Boy was I fooled. There are still no leaves on the trees. Everything is brown, grey or black. Sometimes there is beautiful blue sky but not today.
But wait, is that a little hope I see? A first crocus pushing up through the ugly brown dirt? And there is a hyacinth pushing up too. Will it be white or purple? Well Spring will be here soon but today it is only a calendar event.
