Rewind

I just had to post this again:  Maverick and LuLu are now a year old and no more goat babies until next spring (fingers crossed) so I just had to have a fix of these adorable ones again

Sometimes you just have to butt heads with your mother

Eloise and her mother, CoCo

Sometimes kids just don't see eye to eye with their parents.  I think CoCo started this one but LuLu just isn't afraid to take her on.  None months in a goat's life must mean she's a teenager.

At the end of it all they go back to loving each other.

Welcome CoCo's new babies!

Well we try to plan these things but nature knows best.  After watching CoCo closely for two weeks without babies I decided to give her a rest - we adults just didn't figure out the right daddy or the right due date.  But Wednesday when I arrived home from work there were two new kids JUST born.  After just a day and a half they are out exploring the barnyard

Twinsies

Coco and Sunflower went "home" to Caramel Apple Farm for a stay while I'm off on vacation.  CoCo and her Mom, Blueberry usually come right together to say hello but this time there was a new baby there to greet my girls.  "Clementine" is Blueberry's new kid this year so CoCo has a new sister.  And don't they look alike?  Their color is officially "red" and not very common.  Clementine has blue eyes and Coco's are golden brown but other than that they are pretty much twinsies!!  CoCo's babies are due in 4 weeks.  Stand by for more goat baby pictures.  None for Sunny this year.  She gets the year off.

MaMas and boys

CoCo and Storm

Sunflower and Ash

These boys are growing- 3 weeks and they have mastered the barnyard obstacle course but they do stop and snuggle with their MaMas...  yes...these boys have two MaMas   Of course Sunny gave birth to both of them and CoCo did not have any babies this time but CoCo makes a wonderful Aunt.  In the goat world kids tend to stick to their own mothers but they love Aunt CoCo too.

Two goats on two chairs

These 10 day old little bucklings are too darn cute.  This morning they discovered the chairs.  They are mostly used for children to sit in but they are kids, aren't they?
It looks like there are no babies for CoCo this year but she does make a very fun Aunt.  Watch these little kids repel of the side of the barn.

15 below zero??!!!??

Coco and Sunflower, originally uploaded by cabanagirl.
Oh My God It's cold. I didn't think it got this cold. Last night I went out to check on my babies and found them all cuddled up trying not to freeze. I was worried sleeplessly all night wondering if they could sustain such a night. But I just went out to check and they are ok. So are all the chicken. Let's hope it warms up and we can all thaw out.

Sunflower and Coco

Sunflower and Coco, originally uploaded by cabanagirl.
These little doelings came home to my urban farm 3 weeks ago and are settling in nicely. Coco (the one on the left) is about the same size as my biggest chicken "Pluma" so she is not very big. They are now 2 months old and wag their tails madly when I bring them their breakfast at 6 in the morning. Say "hello" Coco.

New kids in town

And two more join the now 14 girl household/farm. "Coco" and "Sunflower"
These two little Nigerian dwarf goat doelings are coming home to the "farm" in 2 weeks. I have been watching them grow and they will soon be ready to leave their Mama's and move to the city. Nigerian dwarf goats are great for milk, are only 18 inches tall and make wonderful pets. And...the city of Denver allows residents to have 2. In a couple of years these girls will give us delicious milk for cheeses, yogurts and drinking.
I grew up with goats and have fond memories of them. I can't wait

yummy French treasures

yummy French treasures, originally uploaded by cabanagirl.

French roses, French parfum and Gilles. France does produce an abundance of yummy things. As I was showering I looked across to my countertop and noticed I had clustered some treasures from France. I thought it would be my next subject for watercolor that have been pushed aside for a few weeks. Merde! But I do love all things French. I lived in Paris for a month while attending the Cordon Bleu School of cooking; I love my Apilco white French porcelain dinnerware. I love French perfume....although I do have a Bobbi Brown on the counter, n'est pas? and I love all roses. These just happen to be French Paul Bocuse. I also love the blog Paris Breakfasts and I am happy to see Gilles Marini take a role on Brothers and Sisters. Now he is yummy!
