More things to draw from the garden. Castroville California is the artichoke capitol of the world. This area supplies most of our spring artichokes and this one is a perfect shape. Choose round firm artichokes with the leaves tightly closed. To cook: snip the thorny tips off of each leaf with a pair of kitchen shears. Cut the stem to about 1/2 inch and then steam for 45 minutes. I eat mine either hot or cold with lemon juice and olive oil. For added flavor add lemon wedges to the steam water and tuck garlic cloves into some of the leaves. Enjoy! I am having this one for lunch. Yum!

Tulips in Washington
tulip fields in Skagit Valley, Washington, in April
Every April there is a tulip festival in the Skagit Valley, Washington. It was going on this weekend while I was in Seattle. We didn't go this year but we have in year's past. The tulips are blooming everywhere in Seattle and they are beautiful and come in so many colors. Just a walk down the street will offer up hundred of colors and varieties. Brad has yellow orange and red ones blooming right outside their back deck. This pink one is my fave.

A visit to Seattle
Reina is now 19+ months and is an absolute joy to play with. We had lots of fun playing with blocks, reading books, singing and dancing, discovering the treasures in "Nana's" purse, lots of walks in the neighborhood that was bursting with spring flowers......hundreds of tulips!. We went to the park and out to breakfast and we won't tell what we did while Mommy and Daddy were at the wedding Saturday night. i enjoyed every minute of my time with this precious child and her Mommy and Daddy
