We heard on the radio the other day that the circus was coming to Denver and to celebrate training animals there is a contest to win tickets. We have to submit a video of our pet doing a trick. Well I am sure there will be many entries with dog tricks and cat tricks but have you seen our chicken's trick?

I love summer. There is so much time to be outside.
Yesterday Kate, Ella and I went to the corn maze at the Chatfield farm. We did need help out of the maze but continued to have fun.
In August I visited my family in Seattle for Reina's "4" BD and we had some fun in canoes and a local farm there.
Then there are always chicken stories. My Colorado girls have become quite the chicken keepers. My feathered girls are giving us 4 eggs a day now.....
It looks like we have a farm theme growing. We have renamed the back yard:
Chicken beach.
I used to listen to the gentle sounds of the waves while resting on a beach blanket but now all we hear is a steady....bock bock bock
Pickles: bread & butter, classic dill, green beans Fruits: strawberries, raspberries and peaches in all forms
All found their way into clear glass jars, a hot bath in an old fashion canning pot and then the "pop" of the sealed can on the countertop. Lots of spices and herbs, vinegar & sugar and now they are labeled and ready to retrieve from the quaint little cellar I have in the basement.
This is a very old tradition of preserving foods at the time of their bounty. It was lots of work but much more fun. And now we can have traditional pickled peaches at the holidays.
It's beginning to look like the end of summer. last night the 98degree day was interrupted by a heavy downpour of rain and a quick switch to cool weather. I actually slept with my windows open for the first time in many months.
The wane of summer also is visible in the garden- finally the vegetables that take so long time to mature: winter squash, pumpkins, eggplant and my very favorite--TOMATOES. Dare I say my feathered girls like tomatoes too. I guess it's a fair exchange since I am getting 2 eggs a day now.
Also the sunflowers are towering over 9 feet in the air and are in full bloom. I get more and more zinnias and beautiful morning glories. I pulled up a few summer squash plants an harvested the blossoms. They will be stuffed with goat cheese by the end of the day.
This is going to be a gorgeous Saturday!
